Events

We have several fundraising events throughout the year that have become a staple for our agency, raising about one-third of the necessary revenue for our mentoring programs.  These events are a wonderful way to support mentoring in our community while having a great time!  They are:

BIG Night Out! - February 8th, 2010
Bowl For Kids' Sake - March 27, 2010
Wine Tasting and Auction - November 21st, 2009

BIG Night Out!
Each month, a different restaurant supports our mentoring programs by picking a day and time to host our BIG Night Out event where a percentage of all sales during that time are donated to our agency.  The Northridge restaurants in Nevada City, Penn Valley, and Lake of the Pines (Auburn) have all signed up to sponsor our upcoming Big Night Out Events, and will donate 10% of all sales.  Here are the details:

When:          Monday, December 14th, 2009

5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

Northridge Restaurant in Penn Valley

17464 Penn Valley Drive, PV

(530) 432-0700

Monday, January 11th, 2010

5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

Northridge Restaurant in Lake Of the Pines

5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

How:           Come on in to the Northridge on any of these days between 5:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. for dinner and enjoy a Big Night Out (or take out), and 10% of all items purchased will benefit at-risk kids in our community through Big Brothers Big Sisters of Nevada County mentoring programs!

Bowl For Kids' Sake!

Saturday, March 27th, 2010
9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.
Prosperity Lanes
420 Henderson, Grass Valley
Come and join the fun! This is a signature Big Brothers Big Sisters event and agencies across the country recruit thousands of bowlers to support mentoring.  Come join the thousands of bowlers in a nation-wide effort to raise funding for mentoring by participating at our next event with your bowling team (if you don’t have a team, let us know and we’ll “team” you up with others!).  Each individual bowler will request sponsorship pledges for their bowling day and will bowl with their team alongside other supporting teams from Nevada County. Or if you are not a bowler but want to support this event, you can become a Lane Sponsor or donate a pledge in support of someone who is bowling.

Mountain Bike Endurance Ride
Saturday, May 22nd, 2010
All day, starting at 7:30 a.m. in Pioneer Park, Nevada City
The Mountain Bike Endurance Ride is for mountain bike enthusiasts who love a great challenge!  There are two routes: The 50-mile route follows a beautiful loop out of Nevada City on local trails, including the incomparable South Yuba Trail. The route is comprised of approximately 80% single track, 7000+ feet of climbing, and stunning views of the South Yuba River. The 45-mile route is less demanding, but also follows some of the best trails in the area.  The 45-mile route is perfect for riders who want to test their endurance, but are not quite ready for the technical challenges that the 50-mile route provides.
Riders collect pledges in lieu of an entrance fee and have the goal of raising $250 each for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Nevada County. Riders can collect pledges in person, or online through an easy-to-use fundraising page for our agency. Click here for details. For riders who prefer to collect pledges in person, click on the pledge form link to print the form and use. Or you may wish to use both methods in an effort to request sponsorships from people who do not have access to the internet as well as from those who do.  Riders receive goodie bags filled with endurance snacks and other items, including a free t-shirt commemorating the ride, and are eligible for prizes based on the amount they raise for our agency.
Ride Sponsors help offset the expenses associated with the event and raise additional money for our mentoring programs. Ride Sponsors may donate $300 to BBBS for the event or mountain-bike related goods and services to be used as prizes. Ride Sponsors will have their business name and logo printed on the back of the t-shirts given to all the riders, and have their name and logo printed on posters at the event. Additionally, all Ride Sponsors are mentioned in our electronic newsletter and on our website.

Annual BBQ & Pool Party
Although not a fundraising event, this annual BBQ and pool party celebration has been an important event since our inception back in 1981!  This event is for everyone who participates in our mentoring programs, their families, and community members who would like to see Bigs and Littles "in action"!  The event is typically at the end of August, so please check back later for specific date, time and location.

 2009 Wine Tasting & Auction

Saturday, November 21st, 2009
6:00 - 9:00 P.M.
The 2009 event was a success, netting over $18,500 for our mentoring programs.  We couldn't have done this event without the participating wineries, businesses and individuals who donated auction items and raffle prizes, Underwriters, Tree Sponsor, Table Sponsors, and Board Members, Staff, and countless volunteers! THANK YOU for supporting mentoring for our children!
