Bowl For Kids' Sake

Saturday, October 8th, 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
Bowl Incline

Want to support mentoring by participating in our Bowl For Kids' Sake event?  Then the information below will give you the details on how to get started!

Here’s what you need to do to get your teams ready:
  • Select a Team Captain and put a team of 3-5 together, or come as a single bowler. If you are the Team Captain, click here to download the team information sheet.  Please complete this sheet and email to kimala@bigsofnc.org or fax it to (530) 273-4113.
  • Contact our office at 273-2227 or kimala@bigsofnc.org as soon as possible to schedule a lane for one of the following time slots: 5:30-6:45, 7:00-8:15.
  • Either pay a $25 registration fee per bowler at the door or help us fundraise to support our mentoring programs by having each bowler set a goal of collecting $100 or more in pledges; they can do this online and/or use our pledge sheet to collect pledges in person.  People who use the online system for collecting pledges typically raise 5 times more than people who use the pledge sheet alone!  Click here to view and download the instructions for collecting pledges through our fast and secure online fundraising website at www.firstgiving.com/bigsofnc/BFKSTahoe. You can also collect pledges in person by using our pledge sheet; click here to download our pledge sheet.
  • Have Fun for Kids’ Sake on October 8th!

Bowlers: Due to the cost of the event and our goal of raising $15,000 for our programs, we encourage each bowler to have a goal of raising $100 or more in pledges and to bring as much of the money as possible to the event (if collecting pledges in person). Whatever isn’t collected by the event day will be collected by BBBS, as long as full names and contact information for sponsors is provided on the day of the event. The minimum pledge for each sponsor is $5. Each bowler receives a free t-shirt, and we will also have prizes, pictures and lots of fun! Grand prizes will go to the individual bowler and team who raises the most money for our mentoring programs.

And in the spirit of our theme, we will also give a prize for the bowler with the best rock-n-roll costume! Costumes are optional.

Prizes:

Grand Prize for Top Team Fundraiser for Overall Event

  • A pair of day passes to Homewood Mountain Resort  for each team member ($590 value)

Grand Prize for Top Individual Fundraiser for Overall Event

Not a Bowler, But Want to Support Our Event?  Then Become a Lane Sponsor!

Lane Sponsors help offset the expenses associated with the event and raise additional money for our mentoring programs.  There are three levels of sponsorship, each with accompanying levels of recognition and publicity: Bronze ($250), Silver ($500), Gold ($1,000), and Platinum ($2,000).  Click here for the lane sponsor information and sign up form.  Lane Sponsors receive great publicity for their support through local media, have their name printed on the back of the t-shirts given to all the bowlers, and have their name printed on posters for the event. Silver, Gold, and Platinum sponsors have their logos printed on t-shirts and posters.  Additionally, all Lane Sponsors are mentioned in our electronic newsletter and on our website.

Volunteers Needed!

If you can't put together a team or sponsor a lane, you can always volunteer at this fun event!  Here are the volunteer positions that we are looking to fill:

Greeter:
Volunteers stand at the entrance into the bowling alley to greet bowlers as they arrive and direct them to the Pre Check-in station. If the Pre Check-in line gets too long, they can go through and make sure everyone has their pledge sheets and money ready to check in and give them a pledge sheet to fill out in line if they don’t have one.

          Shifts: 4:30-5:45 p.m. AND/OR 5:45-7:30 p.m.

Pre Check-in: At this station, volunteers check each bowler’s pledge sheet to make sure all information is completed and legible. Bowlers without pledge sheets are asked to fill one out to keep track of who has checked in. All teams are provided with a team info card to make sure member names are correct or update as needed. Once all teams check in, the cards are given to the emcee for announcements.

          Shifts: 4:30-5:45 p.m. AND/OR 5:45-7:30 p.m.

Registration: At this station, volunteers collect pledge sheets and money from each bowler according to instructions and make sure the total amount paid matches the amount submitted. This involves calculating totals and organizing pledge sheets and money for immediate data entry at the event. This station requires one of the volunteers to have strong Excel data entry skills.

Shifts: 4:30-5:45 p.m. AND/OR 5:45-7:30 p.m.

T-Shirts and Gutter Ball Insurance Sales: At this station, volunteers hand out t-shirts to every bowler who wants one according to their size. They also offer bowlers the option to purchase gutter ball insurance to protect them from fines every time they bowl a gutter ball.

Shifts: 4:30-5:45 p.m. AND/OR 5:45-7:30 p.m.

Lane Runners: Volunteers in this position are assigned 4 lanes in a row to oversee. Going from lane to lane, they keep an eye out for gutter balls and collect fines from bowlers who don’t have insurance. They also pass out prize tickets to the bowlers according to instructions, such as bowlers who win a specific challenge announced by the emcee, or to kids who bowl strikes. Finally, they collect bets from teams who challenge each other, as announced by the emcee.

Shifts: 5:00-6:45 p.m. AND/OR 6:45-8:30 p.m.

Prizes and Check Out: At this station, volunteers put out prizes according to the instructions and collect tickets from bowlers in exchange for their prize. This involves replenishing prizes as they get low, and making sure that bowlers collect prizes that correspond with the number of tickets they submit. At this station, volunteers also check out teams/bowlers after their round ends and collect their score cards to determine which team and bowler scored the highest. They make sure to thank bowlers and teams for their support of mentoring!

   Shifts: 5:00-6:45 p.m. AND/OR 6:45-8:30 p.m.
